Aberglasslyn have once again proven their pedigree in the Newcastle & Hunter Rugby League’s League Tag A-grade competition, sealing their 2018 premiership with an 18-4 victory over University.
Shae Ross opened the Ants’ account at No.1 Sportsground on Saturday, with a breakaway run seeing her cross in the opening three minutes of the contest.
Jessica Cassidy provided the second sting from the Ants on the stroke of half time, as her kicking dangers created strong field position for Aberglasslyn before she was able to cross to make it a 10 point lead.
University struck back after the break, but the unconverted try wasn’t enough to mount a comeback, as Caitlin Shoulders closed out the match with a four pointer of her own. The Ants rounded out their 18 point haul with a conversion and a penalty goal.
As well as the ultimate silverware for the 2018 season, Jess Cassidy was also named player of the year, and scooped the top try scorer and point scorer awards for the league. Halves commander Neisha Smith was named player of the grand final.
