Charlotte Poynting continues to break barriers in the world of racing.

Newcastle’s speed demon Charlotte Poynting is set to race a new Toyota Hilux SuperUte at Bathurst and Newcastle in coming months, becoming the first woman to contest the tournament variant.

The 19 year old is praising to wrapped up her Aussie Racing Cars season for the year with the campaign-ending Vodafone Gold Coast 600 on October 20, and then will aim to once again participate in the Newcastle 500 Supercars race in November.

“I wanted to race something at Newcastle with it being my home round and we were tossing up between this and an 86,” Poynting told Speedcafe.com after the announcement.

“We just thought that utes would be the way to go as it’s kind of a point of difference and obviously Western Sydney Motorsport is already involved with the utes with Woodsy and Ben Walsh racing.”

Round 5 of the inaugural SuperUtes Series supports the Rabble.Club Sandown 500 this weekend, September 14-16.

Coverage of the event will be hosted on Fotxtel506HD from 10.30am on all three race days, while Channel 10 will host 11am to 5pm coverage on Saturday and Sunday.
