More than twelve local Newcastle players are set to be involved in an upcoming Junior Matildas Elite Match at Speers Point next Wednesday evening.
The selected footballers will play alongside chosen New South Wales players, with an eye on proving themselves for future training camps, and potentially September’s 2019 AFC Under 16 Women’s Championship.
It’s vital that players from all regions “get a chance to showcase their talents in front of coaching staff”, FFA Junior Matildas head coach Rae Dower explained.
“It’s important for the players to know what the benchmark is for previously selected players and to work on aspects of their game they want to improve,” she said.

“For the players to play outside their comfort zone, alongside different players is also a great learning opportunity for them. The opportunity to bring these players together and see them play against one another in a high intensity, competitive football match is rare and so we welcome any opportunity we can to observe the players we’ve been following for the past 18 months to 2 years.
“It’s invaluable for us as the coaching staff to see the progress they’ve made since we last saw them and to see how they’ve taken on specific feedback provided.”
The match will take place at 7.30pm on May 14 at Northern NSW Football’s Speers Point complex. It will take place after the Newcastle Permanent Masterclass, which Dower is hosting.
