Cortnee Vine and Jenna Kingsley have confirmed they will be returning to the Newcastle Jets for the 2018/19 season, extending their tenures with the W-League club by two and four years respectively.
The two pick-ups by Craig Deans at the Jets speaks volumes of his intent to play “exciting, attacking football”, with both Vine and Kingsley shining in their off-season roles in the NPL and WPL.
Kingsley has shone in the Northern NSW Women’s Premier League recent, starting all 13 matches for Warners Bay and climbing to the top of the competition’s scoring ladder with 27 goals.
Vine, who was used primarily off the bench in her first campaign for the Novocastrian club, has all been in red-hot form at club level, scoring 18 in 22 for Sydney University in the NPL New South Wales Women’s league.
Deans praised the duo for “keeping busy” in the off-season, and believes they are “playing really well” as the new W-League camapign fast approaches.
“Our focus is again on playing exciting, attacking football this season and [this duo will] play a big role in that,” Deans said.
“Jenna and Cortnee each had great seasons in 2017/18, and I’m hoping they can kick on with things once again this year.
“I’m excited to have the pair back on board, and with the local leagues now finished and NWSL coming to a close we’re looking forward to making more announcements in the lead up to the season.”
The Newcastle Jets will officially return to training next Monday. Their first competitive fixture in the W-League for the 2018/19 season will be against Melbourne Victory on the road, on Thursday, November 1.
