Newcastle star Katrina “Cheech” Barker is set to make a shift to the halves for NSW Women when they face Melbourne Rebels in Bathurst this Sunday.

Barker played the first three games of the Super W pool matches in the centres, except for the closing half of the 26-nil victory over the Brumbies in the opening round of the season.

She will now be bestowed the starting number 9 jersey for the fourth and final match. Newcastle’s other ‘Tahs star Maya Stewart has again been named on the wing.

Barker’s stint as a leader in the middle of the park comes as NSW look to turn their undeated 3-0 record into four straight as finals loom, and head coach Matt Evrard knows the final clash is just as important as the opening three.

“It’s important we finish the regular season with a win,” Evrard said. “This is not the time to get complacent. Even though we’re through to the finals we need to keep the momentum going as we approach the decision end of the season.”

Evrard also said the entire team was looking forward to playing at Bathurst.

“There’s players in the team who got their start in the central west and they’re excited to be going home,” he said. “Just like our men’s team, we’re proud to take our top-tier competition around the regions.

“The Central West is a supportive community with a proud rugby history. We’re looking forward to it.”

The NSW Waratahs Women will face the Rebels on Sunday March 24, at 3pm. Tickets are available at the door. All Waratahs members and registered junior season pass holders will receive free tickets.
